I’m about two months into using the Bending Brances Horizon with is a new ww/expeditionary touring paddle from Bending Branches. I can say I’m pleased!
Often, rough and tumble paddles like this are heavy and don’t knife in the water well on return strokes or correctional strokes. The shape of this paddle was well done and it pulls smoothly through the water. The carbon shaft has a very smooth surface (non-grippy) so your hands slide well up and down. The Nylon T-Grip is comfy in the hands and durable in the event your paddle drops or grip hits something (not always the case with carbon grips).
The long form video below doesn’t show all the lava rock I hit that day! I took 10-20 good shots in the power phase and was happy the Lam-Lok was there. My composite kayak paddles from Aquabound have featured this new technology but this is the first canoe paddle, under the Bending Branches label, that features Lam-Lok. Often, canoe paddles take harder shots than kayak paddles because of the deep draw and direct downward force. To have a paddle in my fleet that weighs just 23 oz but still has this durability is a nice addition!
